Five days before the election in 2008, candidate Obama said they would fundamentally transform the United States...
He promised to bring people together, and the press hailed him as someone who could bridge the divide between the two parties.Well here's a view of the last four years from my perspective, a twenty something New Yorker...
2009...
When the President took office 4 years ago, this country needed to address major problems on many fronts.
The immediate problem was the financial crisis, causing millions of people to lose their jobs, which puts added pressure on the housing market.
The country badly needed immigration reform, with 20 million people living in the shadows of society. Two wars along with the on-going war against radical Islam more broadly.

More long term... Social Security and Medicare were both poorly managed by politicians and headed for bankruptcy. We had a debt of TEN TRILLION dollars. We needed leadership to address these issues...
First Act: Stimulus and Spending
The President and his party put forward a plan for 787 Billion dollars in stimulus. The Democrats and the president used their 60 seat majority in the Senate to pass the bill with zero Republican support. The objection from Republican's was that the plan wasted money and would not create jobs, but instead would increase longer-term government spending.
The Democrats insisted that there were "shovel ready jobs" and passed the bill without support from half of OUR representatives.
With so much left to do between the two parties, why be so partisan from the start? That was the democrat parties first major act under the leadership of President Obama... uniter?
The Tea Party was born out of concern for debt... that's it!
I was there from the beginning... just worried that politicians (both parties) keep promising to spend more, while leaving future generations with the burden of their spending.
The Tea Party (we) were mocked by the media and accused of being racist!?
Democrats in general, and even the President of the United States called me a "Tea-bagger" for wanting answers on the debt. (look up what that actually means... presidential?)

All I wanted to know was how they planned to get us out of debt by spending more... BOTH parties were the problem in my eyes, but the president and his party looked to discredit the Tea Party ( meaning discredit me for raising my hand and saying "do we really need to research shrimp running on a mini treadmill?").
Foreign Trips
President Obama traveled around the world making speeches his first year...
just listen to our president represents us abroad...
just listen to our president represents us abroad...
The President had the typical liberal foreign policy... go say sorry to everyone and blame America first... kiss and make up, then there will peace and love forever...
Two major campaign promises broken year one
- The President promised to close Guantanamo Bay on day 1... he acted as if President Bush leaving it open was a stain on our nations history... It remains open today, and no comment in the campaign four years later about closing it from the press.
- The President also promised Latino voters that he would address immigration in his first year... In 2009 he had a Democrat majority in both houses for two years and could have passed it easily...nothing still. (Prolonging the negative impact that issue has on our country without being addressed... only to use it as a way to get the latino vote in 2012).
2010...
National Health Care in a Jobs Crisis
With the passing of his first year in office, it was evident that the stimulus bill written by democrats wasn't working to regain the massive amount of job losses. We needed to do something big... something drastic to solve the jobs crisis.
The President's solution with Democrat majorities in both houses?
A National Health Care Bill...
Without getting into the brutal details of that fight again, the President was deceptive in his argument. Instead of arguing the merits of the plan and how it would work, they used lies and half truths throughout a year long argument.
- It was a half trillion dollar tax increase during a major recession. Everyone knows that you don't raise taxes in a recession.
- The President argued it wasn't a tax.
- The democrat party lawyers then argued that it was a tax when they needed to get passed the Supreme Court!
2010 Midterm Elections
The elections of 2010 were incredibly devastating for the Democrat party. The Tea Party was mocked by the media, yet they just organized a majority and got out the vote. No violence, no damages... just got out the vote with purpose. The once hopeful candidate, Obama had outright dismissed half the country as his political enemies. Nothing out of his mouth or his party was bi-partisan, and the silent majority expressed its disgust at the polls. (They are going to be their Tuesday, you can be sure.)
2011...
The Wars and Bin Laden
The war in Iraq was ended on the same date pre-negotiated by the Bush Administration. President Obama merely carried out the agreement, and therefore only had one effect on the closing of that war; He failed to negotiate us having a base long term to ensure stability in a fragile new democracy, and strategically positioned in the region. At best the President oversaw Bush's plan... yet he brags about ending the war as if he did a single thing different.
In Afganistan, the president sent more troops but at the same time set a date that we would pull out. I believe that was purely for political reasons. Telling your enemy that you will quit the war and leave in three years only makes sense to a liberal voter in San Francisco.

Libya was an air campaign to aid rebels against a Dictator. Democrats bragged about toppling the regime without boots on the ground...
One year later on 9/11/12, our ambassador to Libya and 3 others were killed in a terror attack, because their weren't ENOUGH boots on the ground to defend our embassy.
The fact that the Obama Administration said for weeks after, that the attack on 9/11/12 was caused by an American's home video is depressing... its depressing to be lied to, to be looked at as a fool among fools.
To have a press that won't expose this cover-up because they don't want to effect the election... is a stain on this nations' history, and its happening as we speak.
More 2012...
This year has been only campaigning, no leadership from the president... all while:
- There is still a jobs crisis today
- Homes continue to be in a slump
- Health care costs are up, not down...
- Produce and gas have nearly doubled since the president took office.
- The President oversaw the deficit grow from 10 trillion to 16 trillion in just 4 years, while mocking citizens concerned about it.
- His budget plan for the next ten years was voted down 0-99 in the Senate by both parties!
- Europe is crumbling from policies the President is promoting we adopt here at home.
- The Middle East is devolving into a scenario which was the goal of Al Qaeda... to overthrow the dictators across the region and replace borders with one enormous Islamic State.
- The leader of Egypt preys for the death of Jews now publicly, while our president stays silent.
- There is a fiscal cliff set for January that will raise YOUR taxes, while the status quo continues
- And it turns out the President is worthless in the immediate aftermath of a Hurricane (sorry President Bush)
Notice I said nothing about Romney...
Romney seems like a good man. He's stiff, and awkward on camera, but he has an extremely successful record.
A Republican who wins Massachusetts for governor must be someone who can lead a broad coalition.
I can only trust one candidate to reach across the isle and repair some very deep wounds this election will inevitably cause, and that is Mitt Romney. These divisions do not have to be so deep... there are common sense solutions that both parties can agree to.
We have to tackle all the same problems that were their 4 years ago, and we need to see if Romney can succeed where President Obama and his party failed.
I do believe that with this record, we are watching the final days of the Obama administration... but I am truly fearful if not.
