The Iowa Caucus Tonight!

Just a quick post on the race tonight...

If you only caught the news once or twice a week for the last few months, you mostly heard about the horse race. We've heard what a disaster the candidates are, and how confused the electorate is... all based on polls and opinion.

Not a single vote has been cast before tonight.

        A few things to note:

voters want a winner this time in the Republican primary...

  • Put Santorum, Newt, Perry and Bachmann in the same conservative boat
  • Romney voters count for establishment republicans and those nervous about winning "independents"
  • Ron Paul is carrying the Libertarian wing of the party

Add up the number of votes divided into those 3 groups and you will see the make up of the Republican majority. The leader of that, likely to be Santorum in my opinion, is the front runner heading into South Carolina. More on him next week.

The race will favor Romney with his coming win in New Hampshire and a drawn out process where the 4 conservative candidates divide that voting block, so hopefully the last place candidates will bow out early after tonight, and clarify the race.

Remember, if you watch the news and you hear about a horse race... you have learned nothing about this election.

  1. That was a hell of an election night! The top two spots separated by seven votes with 99% reporting... 7 people made the difference!
