Anyone Can Believe...

Tonight at 8 the Denver Broncos travel to New England for a divisional playoff game.
For many NFL teams, making it to this point is a success in itself, just look at the Jets and big talkin Rex...

Tom Brady and the Patriots are not one of those teams. They lost their last two home playoff games, and a loss tonight would make the Patriots comparable to the Falcons.

Tom Brady is the elite quarterback... arguably the best active quarterback in the league.
The Patriots are a 14 point favorite at home. They stopped Tebow and the Broncos' 6 game win streak in Denver, and the Broncos haven't been to the playoffs since 2002. Denver looked terrible at the end of the season, and the Pats offense was on fire. So why will this game be the highest rated playoff game in history?

One name can mean a lot to a lot of different people... Tim Tebow is one of them.

The sports media gets into the same group think mentality as the "drive by media", and it all needs to be taken with a few grains of salt.

They all said Tebow could not be an NFL quarterback. His arm doesn't move right, so the ball comes out slower... He's not a pocket passer, and its a passing league... He's not accurate, etc, etc... all true statements on their own to one degree or another, but meaningless if he has been successful doing it.

Tim Tebow won a National Championship with Florida. He won a Heisman. The Broncos are 8-4 with him as their starter, including the unbelievable game last week in the playoffs. Yet every week prior to now the press would have to question on the hour whether he should start next week, next year, or ever play again as a quarterback in the NFL...

In comparison, there is a quarterback named Gabbert who looked terrible this year, drafted higher than Tebow, and not once was there a headline that Gabbert was not an NFL quarterback. Gabbert does not have nearly as much success to fall back on, so why Tebow?

This clip really sums up how our "pop" media of comedians and talk shows jumped on this 24 year old football player: (some profanity at the end, sorry)

So really, what's the hate about? There are always those people who are "haters" for no reason, they just hate different things... but I'm pretty sure the media and the left know why they hate this kid.

American's treasure their Super Bowl commercials, and we know the cost for people to get their message across to the millions of people watching. Tim Tebow did an ad the year he came into the NFL with his mother. There were attempts to prevent it from being aired, but it was paid for like any other. Here it is if you missed it:
The story behind it was that his mother was going to "abort" him, but changed her mind, and that is what the commercial was about. To people who want the option, its offensive to hear a story that could cause people to think about it more.
Him telling his story is the reason he became "polarizing" and "controversial" to the press.

Tim Tebow's life depended on that decision, so he feels that its pretty important... wouldn't you?

For me though, I can honestly say that he inspires me to do better. If you don't know, the guy works freakishly hard to have this opportunity. He wants to be great, while the press sets his bar much lower. The competitive nature he brings to the game is enviable. He stay's humble, clear about his goals, and confident in where he finds his strength.

He seems to take great responsibility for his power to influence others, including his teammates, to be better than they think they can be. The Denver Broncos did not believe they were going to be this good this year...

His story is one of hard work and perseverance in the face of overwhelming challenges. He's the underdog, but his family believed in him when many "experts" told them to quit. Most importantly, Tim believes in himself.

He kept his head down, on one knee and called it prayer... they re-named it Tebowing...

My father doesn't watch sports, and touchdowns could be called home runs if you asked, but I called last weekend and he was watching Tebow shock Pittsburgh, and everyone else. Tebow has made millions of people look at prayer as a good attribute, that anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

So you can be a Tebow hater, just don't hate him for believing...

I got one for you:
What is Tim Tebow's best play?.............................. The Hail Mary

Tim in his own words:

  1. Well said Rich. What i find odd about this is how many of his peers / pro sports players rip into this kid. I have never ever seen a rookie player get this torn into in any sport. And to have other players tear into this guy like has been unprecedented. I dont recall anyone tearing in Alan Houston on the NY Knicks as he would huddle teammates and opponents into the middle of MSG court for a post-game prayer. Dont recall them blasting any of the to numerous to count NBA, NFL, MBL players for pointing to the sky giving thanks. It is very strange how those that do not agree with his faith are so vehemently opposed to it.

    1. Good point... now that the seasons over hopefully all the hype goes away, he gets a shot to practice in the off season, and he competes for years to come. He is a gold mine as well for Denver and the NFL in the end
